Jacqui lived and worked in England for 37 years, employed in local government initially as a social worker then with fi ve English Local authorities as Director, Acting Chief Executive and, prior to retirement, Executive Director of People. Jacqui was a trustee of a Domestic Abuse charity in England and has been involved in DA policy, retaining an interest in domestic abuse and the impact of poverty on women and children throughout her working life. She returned to Scotland in 2021.

Since then Jacqui has been a Community Councillor, Director of Perth Credit Union, Non-Executive Director on NHS Tayside Health Board and an SNP staffer. Jacqui has also been a member of the Believe In Scotland steering group since its inception, she is an activist with Perth Yes and the organiser for SNP Perth River Tay Branch, as well as her role with Women for Independence.

At one point in her career, Jacqui found herself responsible for all the local authority's schools when she'd been a persistent truant for most of secondary school!
