Nicola Sturgeon is the first woman to be Scotland’s First Minister, and she is the longest serving. She has led the nation and the Independence movement with unwavering focus, humanity and passion.
In her time as First Minister, she has delivered policies that are world-leading and life-changing for women in Scotland. We would particularly highlight the Domestic Abuse Scotland Bill, which made coercive control a crime.
She has led Scotland through the pandemic, a task that would take its toll on anyone and which she took on with unquestionable diligence.
Nicola Sturgeon has championed the rights of women and oppressed groups with determination and begun the work of creating a human-rights-based independent Scotland. She has inspired women and girls to take part in politics and to join our cause.
That she has done this for 8 years in the face of rampant misogyny, hostile press and ever-present abuse, particularly through social media, is testament to her focus on doing her best for Scotland.
We thank the First Minister for her fierce leadership and look forward to continuing working with her to achieve our shared goal: Independence.
